BREWING IN THE BLACK DIRT
From the beginning of their journey into the unknown – the brave new world of craft beverages – Chip Lain, Brian Ford and son Bret Ford have charted an uncertain path.
They were, after all, Black Dirt farmers and Bud drinkers simply looking for another crop to use in rotation that, like soybeans, would pay for itself.
But in five years, the men have progressed from growing malting barley to growing it and malting it, to make their Black Dirt Malt a one-of-a-kind operation in New York.
This year they will grow 150 acres, twice as much as they did that first year, and approach capacity at their malthouse.
WHO IS BLACK DIRT MALT
